Geoglossum "sp-NY01" occurs in northeastern North America and currently has 23 observations on iNaturalist. It fruits June through October, peaking in September and Hemlock is often mentioned as an associate.
It has been called Geoglossum fallax (Matt Pulk), G. simile (lostculture) and G. glabrum (huafang).
Microscopy
The spores are 7-8-septate in Paganka's New Hampshire collection:

A Michigan collection scoped by Huafang has spores that are also 7 septate and measure:

A Pennsylvania collection scoped by lostculture has the best spore and paraphyse photos, and spores measure:

Spores maturing early, dark with 7 septa. Paraphyses pale, strongly septate, and not constricted, septa segments often as wide as long.
A New York collection was scoped by Longtooth and was also found to be 7-septate and notes "Ave. spore size 94 x microns. Ave. ascus size 190 x 24 microns. Ascus tips blue in Lugols. 8 spores per Ascus." [5]
Similar species
Pipsissewa scoped a collection from Virginia with good phraphyse photos and notes "Paraphyses swollen at the tip like light bulbs. Spores are 7 septate. 4 measurements were 88.30, 91.98, 94.79, and 96.24 from crush mount in KOH. Asci are 8 spored. In KOH the head elements were green-black and the stem was green-brown-black. Hairs on the stem are stringy and septate but not like paraphyses." [6]
G. fallax described from New York: 7 - 12 septate, spores not darkening until very mature, measure 65 - 105 x 5 - 7 original species description G. simile paper - the sequence of Geoglossum "sp-NY01" matches 97% with the epitype: [7]
G. glabrum was described from Germany however Geoglossum "sp-NY01" does not have European sequence matches.
